MATTRESS / LAYERED SENSING
Flexible Pressure Sensor Design for Mattresses and Care Beds
Give mattress contact sensing a clear mechanical and test basis.
Mattress sensing must account for layers, their own weight, support and sustained loading. Baoshengda can review sensing positions, film geometry and routing from a mattress drawing. Record loading, holding, unloading and recovery, then assess the results against bed-occupancy or zoned acquisition goals. The application image on this page is a concept illustration.

Define the input you need first
Bed occupancy, local contact change and data from several areas are different design tasks. Describe these inputs separately from the final software display, state classification or alarm.
Mechanical information for a mattress project
- Layers and support
- Materials and positions of the cover, foam and support layers, plus the proposed film location.
- Static loading
- Mattress weight or preload, body contact area, target loading conditions and duration.
- Mounting and routing
- Fixing method, exit direction, bend space and subsequent assembly route.
- Acquisition
- Sensing positions, required channels, existing controller and responsibility for data processing.
Include sensing areas and routing in the layer drawing

Mark contact positions, fixing areas and wiring routes before discussing the film outline and termination. Actual sample photographs support mechanical discussions; your mattress does not have to use the same geometry.
Include holding and recovery in the test
Compare output using agreed mattress layers and readout electronics. In addition to the initial loading response, record changes during the hold period and after unloading.
- Keep the sample, contact area, support, preload, circuit and sampling method consistent.
- Agree load points, hold duration, repetition count and recovery after unloading.
- Retain raw data, revisions and environmental conditions. Assess constant-load drift and repeatability separately.
Mattress project questions
Why is the initial press response not enough?
Mattresses commonly involve sustained loading. Readings during the hold period and recovery after unloading must also be observed to assess suitability for the project.
Should we specify mattress weight and preload?
Yes. Explain the layers, weight, fixing method and preload sources, and include them in prototype testing.
Does the sensing film include sleep reports or care alarms?
The film provides contact-force input. Health analysis, state decisions and alarms also require electronics, algorithms and complete-product validation. Agree the scope separately.
Separate sensing input from health-related functions
Heart rate, respiration, sleep reports, medical diagnosis and care alarms require separate agreement on supporting systems, validation and responsibilities according to the intended use.
